Liberal Democrat county councillor, Nick Hollinghurst, after over a year’s campaigning and lobbying on behalf of local parents and residents, was delighted when the council’s contractors started to mark out the new zebra crossing in Miswell Lane, Tring. It was positioned just where two footpaths, well used as routes to Goldfield School, cross the busy Miswell Lane.
However, imagine everyone’s intense frustration when, shortly after being marked out on Miswell Lane, Tring the new zebra crossing was festooned with notices advising “”. Obedient children and law-abiding adults were then faced with the problem of finding a way across the road to go to school without setting foot on the splendid crossing that was now “Not in Use”! This meant detours to points on the road away from the crossing markings – that were in fact places to cross that were more dangerous than on the well-situated crossing!
So what was all that about? Well, it seems that the council’s contractors failed to make arrangements with the electricity supply company for connections to be made, and didn’t get the lighting fixtures ordered in time. Plan ahead, why don’t you?
