Last week the hedge along London Road, Tring, was flailed – but that just took off the new growth and stopped at the woody stems. The result was a great improvement – but not nearly enough. This morning I sent off another e-mail to Dacorum Borough Council’s Department.
In it I pointed out, with photographic evidence, that drivers approaching the Pound Meadow crossing still cannot see people waiting to cross – and in particular cannot see small schoolchildren. Look at the picture carefully. You can just see the lights of an approaching car and obviously its driver has no view of people waiting to cross.
I asked again that the hedge be taken right down to the height of the safety barriers from the crossing as far as the first telephone pole to the west – a distance of about 35 metres (you can see it in the picture). And that the hedges on either side of the crossing at Station Road – which so far haven’t been touched – should also be cut to a similar height.
Yesterday morning, however, an accident did take place on London Road, though not at the crossing. It wasn’t far away, though. It was at the roundabout at the entrance to Tesco and involved three cars, one of which appeared to have travelled a long way off the road and up a bank before coming to a halt when it hit some railings.
This does show very clearly that cars are travelling too fast on that stretch of London Road. It also shows, of course, that not all drivers are paying sufficient attention when they are driving. I have asked Herts County Council officers to install a second mounting (between the roundabout and the entrance to Tring off the A41) that can be used to support a Speed Indication Device to warn drivers of their speed.
