A Kitchen Garden. Definitely Worth a Row of Beans – and Much More Besides!

Well as it’s getting into late Summer there is at last some produce from those vegetable plants put into the ground all those months ago.
The very first are broad beans – which, as all homegrown vegetables do, tasted delicious. Next to come are salad potatoes, courgettes and early maincrop potatoes.
All being well these will be followed by cucumbers, peppers and, finally, tomatoes. Of course in this country it’s usually a race to get tomatoes to ripen before the end of the season – which is why green tomato chutney is a staple English delicacy!
But if you haven’t got a large enough garden of your own, don’t forget about an allotment. A Half Plot would be a good size for a beginner.
Allotments are available in most towns and villages – just get in touch with your local town or parish council.
