Are you an EU citizen and did you need to get a Permanent Residency Card in November 2016?
Ex-Mayor of Ipswich, Inga Lockington, a Lib Dem councillor for 19 yrs has been denied UK citizenship despite an English husband & permanent leave of residence in UK for 40 years.
After paying £1,282 her application was rejected in January because she should have got a Permanent Residency Card in Nov 2016 and the Home Office says that because of that they can’t be satisfied that she is actually permanently resident.
Now, after publicity in the Guardian, a spokesperson for the Home Office is saying they respect Lockington’s public service and would be “happy to discuss the various routes to citizenship” available to her.
Richard Thompson, of Ipswich Liberal Democrats, said:
“It’s just ridiculous. If someone who has been a councillor for 19 years can’t get the paperwork right, it suggests there is something wrong with the paperwork.”
Cllr Nick Hollinghurst said, “May’s ‘hostile atmosphere’ has turned the UK into a jack-booted nationalist state.”
