While up at Pheasant Close a couple of weeks ago I noticed two gazebos and a small crowd gathered in the cemetery that lies between Rectory Lane and Three Close Lane.
Wandering in I found the crowd listening in rapt attention to the words of a man standing on one of the gravestones.
Cemetery. The orator was actually taking the audience through the complex lifestyle and habits of bees.
There has already been local fundraising and grants, but the major resource behind this restoration is a £1 million award from the Heritage Lottery Fund to repair 19 memorials at the site.
More funds will be needed of course for works to paths, trees and shrubs.
A further fundraising event is planned for Saturday, September 1st, involving portrayals of local Victorian personages and scenes, thus giving several mature gentlemen the opportunity to dress up like Jacob Rees-Mogg.
