Northvolt is a Europe-wide e-battery company. It is currently setting up Northvolt Ett on the Gulf of Bothnia in to manufacture batteries. However this involves a significant amount of scrap and waste material which has to be recycled. Here’s a glimpse inside the associated battery recycling facility, Revolt Ett, where installation is progressing nicely.
On track to start commissioning this year, Revolt Ett will allow Northvolt to recycle scrap from the Northolt Ett gigafactory located right next door, as well as recycling used batteries in the future as part of the goal of establishing a closed loop in the e-battery industry.
“ett” means “one” (as in “1” ). “Revolt” is just a name. Both Northvolt Ett and Revolt Ett are located in Skellefteå in northern Sweden close to the Arctic Circle.
The factories are located there to benefit from cheap electricity from Skellefteå’s council-owned hydro power station, close access to nickel and cobalt in Finland and Sweden and very soon a new railway line.
