They wrote,
“No party passes with flying colours. But the closest is the Liberal Democrats. Brexit is the main task of the next government and they want membership of the Single Market and Free Movement .
In the General Election on June 8th, in which the Liberal Democrats saw their parliamentary representation go up from 8 seats to 12 – a 50% increase – Christopher Townsend and the Lib Dem team achieved a respectable result.
The vote share increased by 1.4% as, against expectations, the Liberal Democrats comfortably saved their deposit and gained ground across the constituency.
Nick Hollinghurst, recently re-elected as the Lib Dem County Councillor for Tring & the Villages commented, “This progress, modest though it is, when taken together with the rest of the local county council results shows that the Liberal Democrats are well placed to make gains on Dacorum Borough Council in the elections in two years time.”
“There are only three serious contenders in this constituency and in the absence of any effective opposition from Labour it is the Liberal Democrats who will be holding the Conservatives to account both locally and nationally.”
Phil Williams, candidate in the Three Rivers by-election in Chorleywood South and Maple Cross on Thursday, 13th July, added, “It’s important to keep up the momentum. This by-election is to replace Ann Shaw who so sadly died some months ago. It is an honour to be asked to stand in this by-election to represent Chorleywood and Maple Cross and, if the electors so decide, to follow in her footsteps.
There are regular elections in Three Rivers next year and the increase in the LIb Dem vote share in the recent difficult general election gives us encouragement for this year and next.”
