Network Rail Continues its Programme of Maintenance, Repair and Development at this Difficult Time

Working with social distancing requirements and with some operatives ill or self-isolating will obviously reduce efficiency and slow work down, but with timetable reductions and fewer trains running important work can still proceed – and of course fewer passengers are suffering disrupted journeys.
Staff on nationally critical routes, such as the West Coast and Chiltern main lines, are keeping essential supplies and key workers moving during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Network Rail maintenance teams and signallers are continuing to carry out vital maintenance on the railway between London Euston and Marylebone on the Chilterns Line and on the West Coast Main Line up to the West Midlands and to Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Lancashire and Cumbria.
This work will help protect and develop passenger routes once timetables are restored after the epidemic. It is also vitally important for maintaining freight traffic which not only continues but is running extra trains with the passenger survices curtailed.
