HS2 Infrastructure Maintenance Depot to be built near Calvert, Buckinghamshire, north of Aylesbury

It has been announced that an Infrastructure Maintenance Depot for HS2 is to be built between Steeple Claydon and Calvert where the East-West Rail Line crosses HS2. The depot will be manned 24/7 and will create 180 jobs.

It will be a base for staff and on-track maintenance trains which will access HS2 at night. There will be workshops, offices, storage and training facilities, with a branch of the British Transport Police co-located at the depot.

There will be a link onto the East-West Line to enable equipment and materials to be delivered by rail.

It appears from diagrams available on the HS2 website that a chord and points will be retained to enable freight trains to arrive from the south via Aylesbury which could also enable through freight transit and help take the pressure off the UK rail network.
