Chargemaster predicts there will be over 500,000 electric cars on UK roads by 2020 and to meet the challenge their POLAR network is to have around 25,000 charging points across the UK by the end of the next three years.
Chargemaster is the UK’s largest electric vehicle charging infrastructure provider, forecasts there will be over one million public charging sessions per year on its POLAR network by 2020, but with most EV charging still happening at home, around 11 million annual charging sessions are expected on its UK-made home and workplace charging points.
The extra 25,000 charging points across the UK by the end of 2020 will include several thousand rapid chargers, many of which will be 150kW units, capable of providing around 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes.
David Martell, Chief Executive of Chargemaster, said: “Over 42,000 EV drivers in the UK already use the POLAR network, and we expect that figure to rise dramatically by 2020, when we predict there will be over 500,000 EVs on UK roads. As well as being the largest network, POLAR is the UK’s fastest-growing EV charging network, adding more rapid chargers every month than any other operator, delivering convenient and reliable charging for EV drivers, along with 24/7 customer support.”
